Create an Inventory Location

Overview

This section explains how to create a location used to manage where inventory is stored within a facility in Inventory Management (New Method).

Purpose

Use this feature to manage inventory by linking it to facilities and locations, and to manage inventory location information in one place.

By defining locations in advance, more detailed location units, such as buildings and shelves, can be handled using a common standard.

Feature Description

What is a location?

A location represents a more detailed unit, such as a building or shelf, within a facility.

In Inventory Management (New Method), inventory is tracked by linking it to facilities and locations.

Location type

Location type is a required field representing the kind of location.

The location types that can be selected when creating a location are as follows:

  • Storage: A generic storage location for regular stock.
  • Storage area: A large area inside a warehouse that groups multiple zones.
  • Zone: A section within a storage area, separated by temperature range or purpose.
  • Shelf: A single physical shelf unit.
  • Bin: A bin inside a shelf.
  • Slot: A finer subdivision inside a bin or shelf.

Instructions

Navigate to the location creation screen

  1. Click the Inventory menu.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click Facilities and locations.
  4. Click the Details button of the facility to which you want to add a location.
    The "Facility detail" page opens.
  5. Click the Add location button.
    The "New location" modal opens.

How to fill out the form

  1. Location Type
    Select the type of location using the radio buttons. Location Type is a required field.

    The selectable location types are as follows:

    • Storage
    • Storage area
    • Zone
    • Shelf
    • Bin
    • Slot
  2. Code
    Enter the code to identify the location. Code is a required field.

  3. Display Name
    Enter the display name of the location. Display Name is a required field.

  4. Storage condition
    You can select from None, Ambient, Refrigerated, Frozen, and Light protected.

  5. Barcode
    Enter the barcode of the location.

  6. Allow allocation from this location's stock.
    Set whether to make the inventory in the location allocatable using the checkbox. It is enabled by default.

    • If Allow allocation from this location's stock. is selected: Enables allocation of inventory in the location.
    • If Allow allocation from this location's stock. is cleared: Disables allocation of inventory in the location.
  7. Allow stock filtering by this location.
    Set whether this location can be used as a filter option in search features, such as the stock list and location selection screens. It is enabled by default.

    • If Allow stock filtering by this location. is selected: Makes the location available as a filter option in search features.
    • If Allow stock filtering by this location. is cleared: Makes the location unavailable as a filter option in search features.

Create a location

Review the entered information and click the Create location button.

If the process is successful, a new location is created.

Important Notes

A facility is required to add a location

You must create the facility where you want to add the location in advance.

If no facility has been created, you cannot create a location.

Code and display name are required

Code and Display Name are required fields. You cannot register the location if either field is blank or contains only spaces.

Before creating a location, make sure both fields are entered.

Facility and location settings are shared at the maker level

The Facilities and locations settings are shared at the maker level and are applied to all brands under the same maker.
